Dutch cloud computing company Nebius Group has secured a landmark $27 billion deal with Meta Platforms, marking one of the largest AI infrastructure commitments in history. The agreement will provide Meta with $12 billion in dedicated AI compute capacity immediately, with options to purchase up to $15 billion additional capacity over the next five years.

The deal includes deployment across multiple data center locations, featuring what will be one of the world’s first large-scale implementations of Nvidia’s next-generation Vera Rubin chips. Nebius’s stock surged over 14% on the news, adding to an impressive 400% gain since its NYSE listing in 2024.

This announcement comes just days after Nvidia revealed a $2 billion investment in Nebius, underscoring the company’s strategic position in the AI infrastructure landscape. Nebius has rapidly emerged as Europe’s leading “neocloud” provider, offering high-density GPU clusters and managed services for enterprises, AI startups, and researchers.

For Meta, the partnership addresses a critical need: expanding AI compute capacity within the European Union. With upcoming data residency regulations affecting all European countries, having local infrastructure partners becomes essential. Meta has committed to spending between $115 billion and $135 billion on AI infrastructure this year alone, making deals like this crucial for its ambitious AI roadmap.

The timing is particularly significant given recent reports of Meta planning significant workforce reductions. The company is reportedly considering laying off nearly 20% of its 80,000 employees while simultaneously investing heavily in AI capabilities—a strategy that reflects the broader industry shift toward automation and AI-driven efficiency.

“This commitment will accelerate the buildout and growth of our core AI cloud business,” said Nebius co-founder and CEO Arkady Volozh. The deal nearly doubles Nebius’s total customer commitments, following a similar $17 billion agreement with Microsoft announced last September.

Analysts note that both companies benefit substantially. Nebius gains a powerful anchor customer to support its aggressive infrastructure expansion, while Meta secures access to cutting-edge compute capacity in a market where GPU availability remains constrained. The partnership positions Nebius to capture a significant share of the over $650 billion in AI infrastructure spending that major tech companies plan to make over the next year.
