Cloudflare exceeded Wall Street expectations in its second quarter results, reporting revenue of $696.1 million—up 36% year-over-year and surpassing the $665 million consensus. The company raised its full-year revenue guidance to $2.86-$2.87 billion from the prior $2.805-$2.813 billion range. Shares jumped approximately 18% in after-hours trading.
The beat was driven by what management described as “the rapid rise of AI agents” creating unprecedented traffic volumes through Cloudflare’s network.
AI Agents as Traffic Engine
Cloudflare’s CEO Matthew Prince highlighted that the surge in AI agent deployments is creating cascading demand across the company’s product portfolio. As more organizations deploy autonomous agents that traverse networks to accomplish tasks, Cloudflare’s edge computing and security services become essential infrastructure.
“Every AI agent needs to communicate, authenticate, and secure its connections—just like a human user but at orders of magnitude greater scale,” Prince said on the earnings call. “We’re seeing agents generate 10x the network traffic of traditional API calls.”
The company noted that 97% of its R&D team now uses AI coding tools, and 100% of production code commits are reviewed by autonomous agents—a testament to the technology’s integration into Cloudflare’s own operations.
Infrastructure for the Agentic Era
The Q2 report signals a broader shift in internet infrastructure. As AI agents proliferate, the demand for edge computing, content delivery, and security services grows correspondingly. Cloudflare positions itself as the connective tissue for agentic systems, providing the traffic routing and threat protection that autonomous agents require.
