MediaTek has officially launched its Dimensity 9600 Pro processor today, marking a significant milestone in mobile AI computing. The new flagship chip is built on TSMC’s advanced 2nm N2P process, making it one of the first mobile processors to use this cutting-edge manufacturing node.
The Dimensity 9600 Pro introduces MediaTek’s new Native AI Architecture, which fuses the Neural Processing Unit (NPU), CPU, GPU, and Image Signal Processor (ISP) into a single unified system. According to MediaTek, this architecture enables hardware and software to “natively act as one,” delivering always-on, always-available AI capabilities.
“We’re seeing a fundamental shift in how mobile devices handle AI workloads,” said a MediaTek spokesperson. “The Dimensity 9600 Pro represents our vision for the next generation of smartphones—devices that can run sophisticated AI models locally without compromising battery life or performance.”
The chip features AI Compute Fusion Architecture that blends the benefits of CPU, NPU, and the third-generation Dimensity Scheduling Engine. This approach allows the processor to dynamically allocate AI tasks across different processing units based on complexity and power requirements.
For gaming enthusiasts, the Dimensity 9600 Pro includes AI-driven graphics enhancements, an updated HyperEngine for gaming optimization, and improved ray-tracing support. The chip also supports 4K video capture at 240 frames per second, positioning it as a premium option for flagship smartphones launching in 2027.
Industry analysts note that the 2nm manufacturing process provides significant power efficiency gains, which is critical for on-device AI processing. “The move to 2nm allows MediaTek to pack more transistors while reducing power consumption—a crucial factor for running large language models on mobile devices,” noted one analyst.
The Dimensity 9600 Pro is expected to power flagship devices from Chinese smartphone manufacturers in early 2027, with global availability following later in the year. The launch positions MediaTek as a direct competitor to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series in the premium mobile market.
