Anthropic is set to open its first Southeast Asia office in Singapore this October, marking a significant expansion into one of the world’s fastest-growing AI markets. The new office, located in Raffles Place, will be Anthropic’s fifth Asia-Pacific location following existing offices in Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul, and Sydney.

The Singapore office represents Anthropic’s entry into Southeast Asia—a region that has become increasingly important for AI development and enterprise adoption. The company cited “strong enterprise demand” for its Claude models as the primary driver for the expansion.
“Singapore is a natural next step in our Asia-Pacific growth strategy,” Anthropic said in a press release. “The city-state offers world-class talent, a supportive policy environment, and rapidly growing enterprise adoption of AI technology.”
The company is currently hiring for nine roles at the new office, spanning engineering, sales, and operations positions. This hiring spree suggests Anthropic plans significant local investment rather than a minimal footprint.
Competitive Landscape
The move puts Anthropic in direct competition with OpenAI, which has had a presence in Singapore since early 2025. Both companies are vying for enterprise customers across Southeast Asia—a market of over 650 million people with rapidly growing AI adoption.
OpenAI has been aggressive in the region, establishing partnerships with major telecommunications and technology companies. Anthropic’s entry signals that it believes enterprise customers in the region want alternatives to OpenAI’s offerings.
The timing is notable given heightened attention to AI safety following Dario Amodei’s recent essay calling for coordinated slowdowns in AI development. Anthropic’s expansion despite the safety debate suggests the company sees commercial opportunity as outweighing potential regulatory headwinds.

Singapore has positioned itself as a hub for AI development in Southeast Asia, offering incentives for technology companies and maintaining relatively permissive regulations compared to other jurisdictions. The country hosts data centers from all major cloud providers and has attracted significant AI investment from global technology companies.
Anthropic’s office will join those of Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and OpenAI in Singapore, further cementing the city-state’s role as the region’s AI capital.
