OpenAI and ServiceNow are widening their partnership from a model supplier into a two-way embedding: ServiceNow workflows become callable from ChatGPT, and OpenAI models and Codex get pushed into ServiceNow’s own products. The deal builds on the arrangement announced in January and covers both customer-facing surfaces and ServiceNow’s internal operations.
ChatGPT Gets Action Fabric
The headline is a new ServiceNow integration inside ChatGPT that pulls business context and workflow actions into the conversation. An IT team member can search for similar incidents, assess the risk of a change and update a ServiceNow record without leaving the chat window. Customers connect their own ServiceNow instance and pick which capabilities to expose.
The governance detail matters more than the demo: Action Fabric applies existing business rules and permissions, so what an agent can do reflects the organization’s own configuration — the same guardrails a human operator would hit. ServiceNow is also previewing interactive experiences in ChatGPT, where an on-call engineer can review linked monitoring alerts, recent changes and affected services, assign the right team and work the fix in place.
Three Areas of Product Development
- Application development — a planned Codex integration in AI Workflow Factory will let developers build applications with ServiceNow’s business context and platform capabilities, with OpenAI models also powering Build Agent and Autonomous Engineer for build and modernization work.
- Cybersecurity — a joint solution combining OpenAI’s cybersecurity capabilities with ServiceNow’s asset, identity and business context to investigate vulnerabilities, prioritize risk and coordinate remediation.
- Voice — an OpenAI-powered experience in Super Intelligence Control Tower where users describe an AI use case aloud and the system populates assessment fields and asks follow-up questions for what is missing.
ServiceNow also plans to give all employees access to ChatGPT Work and Codex, expanding beyond engineering, and to use OpenAI capabilities in its own security work. OpenAI is already running ServiceNow workflows in its own operations, supported by Super Intelligence Control Tower.
The Timeline Is the Story
Availability is staged rather than immediate. The ServiceNow MCP plugin is live in the OpenAI marketplace today, with enhanced capabilities expected by end of 2026. Voice in Control Tower is expected in Q1 2027. The OpenAI-powered security capabilities enter early access in January 2027 with general availability planned for Q2 2027. Codex in AI Workflow Factory is a 2027 item.
What to watch is whether Action Fabric’s permission model holds up once agents — not just chat interfaces — start composing multi-step remediation paths across ServiceNow and OpenAI systems.
